Today, I went through a few old photo albums and stumbled upon my volunteering trip to Costa Rica. In college, I was part of the Global Education Investment group, an organization dedicated to raising funds and sending school supplies to underprivileged children across the globe. In 2010, we decided to head back to Costa Rica to teach English to children living in the rural village of El Yue, an eco-agricultural farm. The previous year, GEI built a library for that same village. It was great seeing the improvements made and how the shelves were stocked with children’s books. It was one of the most amazing experiences I’ve ever had and feel so blessed to have been part of such an amazing organization and to have worked with such wonderful children. During my nine day trip, we lived in a two-story tree house in the rain forest and slept to the sound of howling monkeys as well as the pouring rain. We walked miles in the hot sun to get into town and spent our days teaching and playing with the children. Our days off were spent on the beach, bathing in the sun and taking in the view of the ocean. It truly was Pura Vida.
